Crocus sativus
Pampore, Kashmir · GI Tagged
The most expensive flower product on earth, and India grows some of the finest. Each crocus blooms for two weeks in October on Kashmir's Karewa plateau at 1,600 metres. Each flower yields exactly three stigmas — hand-picked at dawn before the sun degrades them. GI-tagged Pampore saffron has the highest crocin and safranal content, giving it deeper colour and stronger aroma than most Iranian imports.
